Every Friday Morning the men of APC get together at 7:00 AM for breakfast and Bible study at Denney's restaurant in Auburn. The combination of an All American breakfast, quick intellect and open comunication provides a great forum for connecting with God's word and each other.

The Woman’s Grace Group meets each Tuesday at 9:30 AM. for coffee and fellowship at the church. At about 10:00 am, they continue the studyand discussion of “Living a Life of Grace.” Each year the women of the congregation have the opportunity to adopt a "Secret Sister." Through out the next year each Secret Sister is surprised with spontaneous acts of kindness.

A group of members that are over 50 get together monthly for fun and enriching activities. The group goes to museums, historical sites, and other places, and has book sharing, picnics, and more. Lunch is always part of the event. They usually meet on the fourth Tuesday of the month.

Each Sunday children and youth join the entire congregation at the start of the worship service. Following the opening the service the children and youth are invited to Sunday School. APC members serve as teachers helping to guide each child as they learn about God. For younger children professionally-supervised child care is offered in our "Nurturey" with fun games and toys.

One of the ways that APC helps indivduals grow in their relationship to Christ and to is each other is through Life Groups. At APC, Life Groups are small groups who meet regularly for relationship building, Bible study, and prayer. Anyone is encouraged to be part of a Life Group. We have a Life Group Ministry Team Leader who helps those new to APC to connect with a Life Group who's members might share interests with you whether you're a young family or recently retired. Life Groups often take an active interest in the community. Pictured on the right is a scene from a Life Group outreach together with APC's Youth Group providing Easter Baskets full of food for the needy.

Reverend Dr. Ken Winter, PastorKen Winter, our Pastor, was born and raised in Michigan, and after graduating from the Pastor Ken Winter, University of Michigan (“Go Blue!”), made his way to the San Francisco Theological Seminary where he met his wife, Sharon who grew up in Napa Valley. Sharon is a seminary graduate, too. The day they graduated in the morning they went out for greasy hamburgers, then came back and got married in the afternoon, while so many of their friends were still there. Over the years, Sharon secured a Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from the University of Missouri at Kansas City, and has been working as a Staff Psychologist for the California Youth Authority’s Preston School of Industry in Ione, CA. In 2009 Paster Ken earned his Ph.D. from Fuller Theological Seminary. First, Sharon and Ken moved to a large church in suburban Kansas City (youth ministry in a church of 7,000 members!), and then a medium-sized church in Sacramento (360 members), and in 1988 Ken started to plant this church in Auburn (0 members). He’s been our Pastor ever since. He says he practices “downward mobility” . . . !Along the way, Ken has worked as: a sound engineer, photographer, scriptwriter, director, men’s clothing salesman, golf caddy, traveling encyclopedia salesman, shipping crate maker, parts warehouse order-filler, auto parts assembly-line worker, and office furniture deliveryman. Some of these positions even came with pay! Ken’s abiding interests include spiritual growth (he’s a certified Spiritual Director, or prayer coach, too), jazz, leadership and organizational development, teaching, good coffee, wine and food, and laughter. He’s a good listener. Maybe you should talk with him sometime!Ralph Hammer, Music DirectorAPC is blessed to have Ralph Hammer service as its Music Director. A graduate of the Berklee School of Music in Boston, Ralph had an extensive career working with many of the world's top musicians. He moved to the Sierra Foothills to enjoy the outdoors and sense of community that we have to offer. Ralph joined APC as its Music Director in 2010.Steve Norman, Youth DirectorSteve Norman brings excitement and energy to APC's youth program. He helped the youth found "W.O.W. " ... What's on Wednesday ... a fun and engaging get together for APC's youth and other youth in the community. Steve leads a short Youth Service on Sunday mornings.Elizabeth Creencia, Nursery SupervisorElizabeth, her husband Jessie and their four children have been residents of Auburn for over 10 years. During the work week, Elizabeth also serves as an Instructional Aide at Bowman School where she has also been an active parent volunteer for many years. As in Instructional Aide, she works with the kindergarten students in the morning and then provides yard duty supervision during lunch time, and tutors the upper grade students in the afternoon. Holly Krakover, Office ManagerOur Office Manager, Holly Krakover, is responsible for all the many things that keep the church office functioning.Holly and her family moved to the foothills in 2007, she moved from Southern California with her husband, Rob, and sons Jacob & Ryan. When not working Holly most enjoys cooking and socializing with family, friends and neighbors, usually all at the same time. She and her husband are so happy to have found such a wonderful place to raise their sons.

In January 1987, correspondence began with the Presbytery of Sacramento requesting a church in Auburn. On Friday, April 24, the Auburn New Church Task Force of the Sacramento Presbytery met to look at property. The Chairperson of the Church Development and Strategy Committee was the Rev. Kenneth Winter, then pastor of Northminster Presbyterian Church. The first gathering of people which would lead to the founding of Auburn Presbyterian Church was a Bible study on the book of Philippians which began in June. It was held in the conference room of the Placer Union High School District Office on New Airport Road. The Sacramento Presbytery chose to buy a five-acre parcel at the corner of Bell & New Airport roads. In July, the Rev. Stacy “Stick” Roberts, a retired pastor from the Nevada City congregation, came to guide a steering committee toward developing a church. On Sunday, October 4, 1987 (World Communion Sunday), the first Sunday worship service was held at the Pamelot Dance Studio. Rev. Stick Roberts preached. His wife, Donna, played the organ. The Thursday night Bible Study continued.Ken Winter Called as PastorOn April 21, 1988, the Steering Committee voted to recommend Rev. Kenneth B. Winter, who had been pastor of Northminster Presbyterian Church in Carmichael since May 1982. His selection was announced at the Sunday Worship Service on May 8, and approved at the Presbytery of Sacramento meeting on June 7. His first official Sunday as pastor was June 26, 1988.A balloon-launching was held on Sunday, October 2, to celebrate the first anniversary of the first worship service. The first “Come and See” class (now known as APC 101) was held in the Parish Hall at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church. Each family donated at least 20 food items to the Auburn Christmas Basket Program. The first Children’s Christmas Pageant was presented. In December, 1988, arrangements were made to rent the Masonic Hall as larger quarters were needed for the growing congregation. In February 1989, the church moved to the Masonic Hall on Lincoln Way. A choir formed. Roseville Presbyterian Church gave choir robes. The tradition of putting flowers on the cross on Easter Sunday began at Easter 1989. Third graders received Bibles. In 1991, the first Easter Sunrise Service was held on our church property. A wooden cross was put up on our property during the work party on April 27. By this time the purpose statement, “To Encourage, Equip, and Multiply Faithful Followers of Jesus Christ” was established. Keenagers, a group for senior adults was formed to encourage participation in the 9:00 AM Sunday School class, provide social gatherings, and serve as an outreach to others in the Auburn area.On Sunday, January 19, 1992, Auburn Presbyterian Church was chartered. The Worship and Chartering Service was held at 3:00 PM, followed by a 5:00 PM supper at Pioneer United Methodist Church. The song written for our church by Dan Damon, “A Place of Meeting,” was sung.At the end of March 1993, two services were initiated. The first Youth Confirmation Class was received into membership on April 10, 1994.January 1, 1995, after the 10:30 A.M. Worship Service at the Masonic Hall, everyone helped move to Pine Hills Junior Academy. Work to clear the church property for building began. In July 12, 1996, a modular office building was delivered to our church property. Many hands prepared the modular, built an entry deck, and painted it. March 27-28, 1997, our church office officially moved to this site from its location on High Street. In 1998, there was a major capital campaign to fund a building of our own. The major highlight of 1998, however, was the celebration of Pastor Ken’s 25th Anniversary in the ministry and Ken & Sharon’s 25th Wedding Anniversary. Rev. Dr. Howard Rice, Pastor Ken’s close friend, preached from his wheelchair. The congregational gift was several stoles in the colors of the church year. A very special evening event was held.In April, 1999, the Groundbreaking was held for our new building. We moved from Pine Hills Junior Academy into this church building after the morning worship service on Sunday, September 3, 2000. We loaded everything in pickups and vans and proceeded in a caravan, escorted by the California Highway Patrol, to our new site. We met on September 10, 2000, for our first services in the new building. There was a dedication on November 12.In 2002, Clem Street, intern from San Francisco Theological Seminary, spent several days a week sharpening his ministry skills. He concluded his time, was rdained, and began ministry as a pastor in Otis, Colorado. In November, 2002, we called our first Associate Pastor, the Rev. Brent Benton. He was installed on December 9. His ministry area was Youth and Families. The Dedication Day for the church building was October 20, 2003. Following the service attended by leaders of the Sacramento Presbytery, former members, and others, we circled the outside of the building, laid hands on it and prayed. In August 2005, the church picnic was also a farewell party for Brent. Several families had made a major commitment to cover his salary for several years in order to hire him. The hope, however, that the church would grow to be able to afford him after this did not materialize, so the church reluctantly made the decision to release him.In 2007, Preston Saunders, the church's Music Director, was hired as Director of Congregational Development. In 2010 Ralph Hammer replaced Preston Saunders as Music Director and Steve Norman was named Youth Director.

None of us is perfect. “For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God.” (Romans 3:23)God loves us and wants to be in close fellowship with us, but our sin separates us from Him. “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” (Romans 6:23)Jesus is the only way to connect with God. His death on the cross and resurrection provides the way to God. “For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life.” (John 3:16)If we choose to believe and seek God, His gifts of grace help bridge the separation and bring us to Him. “For it is by grace that you have been saved, through faith - and it is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God - not of works, so no one can boast.” (Ephesians 2:8-9)We believe that men and women are equal before God and that God is free to call any to ministry or leadership positions. “ There is neither Jew nor Greek, slave nor free, male nor female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus.” (Galatians 3:28)We are glad to talk and pray with anyone who wants to seek God.
